Exercises People Tend to Butcher – Part 1

Hey guys,

I have trained personal training clients and teams now for some time now and I generally see the same things over and over pop up – people are doing great exercises but doing them extremely poorly. Below I will outline the common ones and how you go about fixing them.

Here is a few that people always seem to get wrong and importantly how to fix them…

1. The Dumbbell Row-

The dumbbell row is famously known as a simple exercise that’s really hard to do..

Check out how we correct it here –

2. The TRX Row –

The TRX is a staple of most commercial gyms but again we rarely see good form getting thought in commercial gyms –

Check out the simple fixes below –

3. The Lunge

The lunge is a great exercise that is actually quite dangerous for the wrong person. It’s hugely dynamic and should sonly be tackled by people who have a good bit of training under their belt and haven’t got any pre existent knee injuries.

Pay attention ladies as sometime you struggle more with this great exercise than the boys.

Tight Hips Can Be A Curse!

Functional Training Ireland Physiotherapist Riain Casey tells us how to help loosen out those dreaded tight hips.

Many of the knee, ankle, and even low back injuries we see here in FTI are directly related to tightness around the hip joint.

Very often, this tightness can be brought on by increases in activity levels, or in other cases the exact opposite ie. sustained periods of immobility (sitting at desks, driving etc.)

A good functional assessment of how your body is moving can help to identify the exact source of this tightness.

Try these simple exercises that can help to alleviate any pain or stiffness brought on by tight hips

How do you explain FTI?

I set up FTI about 7 years ago with probably about 10k in capital.

I was fired from a previous job and no one would hire me so i decided to get the shoulder to the wheel.

I opened FTI down a lane way in Ranelagh and the rest is history –

I was frustrated by the crap in commercial gyms, frustrated by lack of proper instructing and outdated machine weights etc.

I wanted to train people to show them the right way – the FUNCTIONAL way.

but… >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The problem with Functional Training is it’s extremely hard to explain..

I mean, when I start talking about transverse planes, or Glutes do you understand?

I barely do. ! ! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

So this is what I have done –

Try us out for 30days at only €59

I’ll let you try pretty much ALL our training services in those 30days..

If you like us at the end – Great – if not so be it.

The Functional Training Ireland Podcast 5 – ACL rehab

In this episode Joey Boland Physiotherapist at Functional Training Ireland talks to Dublin Footballers Ciaran Kilkenny and Kevin O’Brien about their recent ACL injuries.

An ACL injury (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) can be quite serious and need in many cases surgery to properly fix and treat, the rehab can be long and frustrating so it’s important to get the right Chartered Physio to help you.

Note: We don’t treat the Kevin or Ciaran they are getting extremely well looked after in the Dublin GAA set up. We are just having a chat with them.
