How to avoid future muscle tears after an ankle injury!

By Joey Boland, Physiotherapist at Functional Training Ireland

I am now 8 days into a grade 2 medial ankle sprain. To follow on from my early rehab article, here are some simple exercises to help during this phase.

From my personal and professional experience, reduced movement and muscular activity at the affected ankle joint and opposite hip can be a major problem after injury.

These can be seen in the below video along with a huge imbalance that has developed as a result of limping around on the ankle for the previous 10 days.

This imbalance MUST be corrected in this phase of rehab or you will pay for it with hip/hamstring/calf strains down the line.

Check out some highly effective exercises below that I use to help rehab my patients during this phase…enjoy.
